IFFRAAJ - EQUANIMITY (by More Than Ready)

Iffraaj x Equanimity filly Iffraaj x Equanimity filly

By Kristen Manning

What a fine representative of the great Mr Prospector sire line Iffraaj is, a fast and high class winner of three Gr.2 races and an outstanding success at stud with 70 stakes winners, ten of whom have been successful at the elite level.

Amongst that tally - such great horses as Ribchester (four Gr.1 victories in the UK and France), Turn Me Loose (NZ 2000 Guineas, Futurity Stakes, Emirates Stakes), Gingernuts (Rosehill Guineas, NZ Derby, Windsor Park Plate), Rizeena (dual Gr.1 winner in the UK), Jon Snow (ATC Derby), Jungle Cat (Gr.1 winner in Australia and Dubai), Chriselliam (Cartier Champion 2Y0 Filly, Gr.1 winner in the UK & US) and the recent Gr.1 Captain Cook Stakes winner Wyndspelle.

Siring topliners in both hemispheres, Iffraaj displays great versatility as a stallion with his progeny (who have amassed in excess of $70 million winning stakes races in 12 countries) winning over a variety of distances between 800m and 2850m.

And, for future reference, he is already faring well as a broodmare sire with seven of the first 72 winners produced by his daughters being stakes winners including the star mare Melody Belle.

The winner of seven of his 13 starts, Iffraaj is a son of the four times Gr.1 winning Gone West stallion Zafonic who, despite dying young sired 53 stakes winners. Boasting a pedigree of considerable depth, Iffraaj is out of Newmarket winning daughter of Gr.1 parents - Nureyev and Park Appeal.

This is a proven stallion's family, Iffraaj able to boast amongst his relations the topliners Cape Cross (Gr.1 winning sire of 119 stakes winners including the star gallopers Ouija Board, Seachange, Sea The Stars, Golden Horn and Able One) and Diktat (dual Gr.1 winning sire of 26 stakes winners including the five times Gr.1 winner Dream Ahead).

This good looking filly bred on the same Iffraaj/More Than Ready cross as the dual Gr.2 winner Serena Miss is the second foal for the lightly raced Equanimity who impressed winning her first two starts.

Equanimity, who is bred on the wonderful More Than Ready/Danehill cross (as are the likes of More Joyous, Sebring, Prized Icon and Benicio), is out of the NZ 1000 Guineas heroine Insouciant who is now in Australia, last year served by the highly rated Dundeel.

Insouciant is out of the stakes placed Palace Music mare Loudenne who also produced the Gr.3 Sunline Stakes winner All Done and the Gr.1 placed Chateauneuf Dupape. Loudenne's dam is the Gr.2 Wakeful Stakes winner Our Lafite who ran a game second to Spirit Of Kingston in the VRC Oaks.

Also ancestress of the Gr.1 winners Dorabella and Media Sensation (both also winners of the NZ 1000 Guineas - how amazing to have three winners of the same Classic in the one family), Our Lafite is a descendant of the influential Orlass, also ancestress of the big race winners Droll Role, Derring Do, Doyoun, Narrator, Hethersett, Neasham Belle and Florin.

This is a filly with encouraging pedigree patterns, her grandsire Zafonic bred on the same Mr Prospector/The Minstrel cross as her dam. Also of note are her multiple strains of the prolific Almahmoud family via five strains of Northern Dancer along with his close relations Halo and Danehill... a family you can never have to much of with Almahmoud being one of the great modern day line-breeding subjects.

There are several great mares duplicated in the background of this filly's pedigree, namely Sweet Lavender, Chelandry, Quiver, Selene, Gibside Fairy, Lady Josephine and Queen Mary whilst within seven generations he boasts crosses of the fine stallions Bold Ruler, Mr Prospector, Nashua, Nasrullah, Native Dancer, Northern Dancer, Princequillo, Secretariat, The Minstrel and Tom Fool.

Trainer Paul Jenkins describes this exciting filly as "a quality, neat, strong filly who impresses me with her attitude and temperament."
