Magic Millions barrier draw at the beach

A barrier draw at the beach was another exciting perk for the owners of Champ Elect, who lines up for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic on Saturday, 14 January.

Adrenaline thoroughbred owners drove along the sand at Surfer's Paradise in a Jeep Grand Cherokee, joining the connections of every runner in the $2 million feature race for the much-anticipated barrier draw.

Our team was fittingly represented by owners Lady Di and Lord Andrew Smith, who owe their regal titles to a cunning play on their Northern Hemisphere ancestry.

We confirmed our underdog status for the race by drawing barrier 17. Chris Munce was hoping for a barrier within the 6-12 range for our filly who doesn't tend to lead early. Champ Elect will likely jump from barrier 13 as four emergency runners drew inside us so we will end up pretty close to the mark.

Spare a thought for unbeaten filly Houtzen though. She was the outright favourite for the Magic Millions until she drew outside barrier 21 but has since slipped in betting. Racenet reports that Champ Elect's stablemate Ours To Keep was one of the main movers in betting after drawing barrier four, which could become barrier two if the emergencies don't run.

All eyes are now on the starting line for the Magic Millions Classic. This is a tremendous occasion for Champ Elect's proud owners who will be grateful for your support on Saturday from wherever you might be watching: the couch, the tote, or the track. C'mon Champ Elect! You're a star!
