* By Queensland sire CAPTAIN SONADOR, a Gr.1 winning son of SHARMADAL and currently second on the Queensland Freshman Sires list

* Out of impressive broodmare Taittinger - six to race - all winners, including two stakes placed and two metropolitan winners
* Considered the pick of Eureka Stud’s draft by manager Scott McAlpine (breeder of SPIRIT OF BOOM and TEMPLE OF BOOM)
* Eligible for QTIS bonus prize money and the Magic Millions race series

This CAPTAIN SONADOR colt impressed us with his balanced physique, calm temperament, and fluid action. He’s also a rare find. His grand-sire SHAMARDAL was an outstanding racehorse in the United Kingdom and Europe. As a sire, SHAMARDAL no longer shuttles to Australia, leaving his progeny to carry the baton for the family in the Southern Hemisphere. Sadly young stallion CAPTAIN SONADOR, a Gr.1 winning son of SHAMARDAL, died in 2014 aged seven years, following a paddock accident. He served just three seasons at Raheen Stud and this colt is from his second crop. CAPTAIN SONADOR had his first metropolitan winner in early 2015, and the yearlings from his second crop sold well at auction this year. There is optimism about the offspring of CAPTAIN SONADOR but just a small window to own one for yourself.

The dam of this colt, Taittinger, is proven to be an impressive broodmare, producing six foals to race – all winners. Lanquin and Spirit of Westbury were both stakes-placed and have won over $100,000 each; Resilience and Sparkling Sound are metropolitan winners. Lanquin was sold as a broodmare for $240,000 in 2005, further underlining the quality of this family. This is a high performing dam who contributes much to her pairing with CAPTAIN SONADOR.

This CAPTAIN SONADOR x Taittinger colt was the top pick of Eureka Stud’s draft at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale in March. He is a very good size – well-proportioned and with a nice sloping shoulder, providing the strength and cushioning for racing. His walk is loose, fluid and natural, and when we interacted with him before and after the sale, he demonstrated a lovely relaxed demeanour. There is so much on the side of this CAPTAIN SONADOR x Taittinger colt. With his breeding and conformation, we expect him to run as a late two-year-old and furnish into a strong, athletic racehorse from age three onwards.
