Have you been watching Spirit of Boom’s explosion onto the stallion ranks and wished you managed to secure one when his first season progeny when they averaged just 40k in 2017? Did you think you’d missed the boat when his runners hit the track and delivered results of which only Exceed and Excel’s first season efforts have been comparable, making his 2019 average hit 150k and his service fee of 11k soar to 55k. Did you think you’d missed the boat? We did!

If you believe you can generally find a positive in a bad situation then this horse is your opportunity in the COVID 19 adversity. With the stock market down and the economy struggling, yearling prices have hit rock bottom and we’ve managed to pick up this bargain now who will hit the track when the current pain surrounding the virus has been forgotten.

As a racehorse this colt’s sire Spirit of Boom was precocious, fast, tough and sound. He raced as a pre-Christmas 2yo starting second favourite in the Magic Millions and wound-up his career as a 7yo having 52 starts with 9 wins scoring twice at Gr. 1 level in the William Reid Stakes and Doomben 10,000 and earning close to $2.5M.

It’s at stud that Spirit of Boom has been the real star, producing 10 stakes winners, 5 stakes placegetters and a further 23 metropolitan winners in his short career. He’s shown great ability to upgrade stock as many of the mares that visited him were of limited quality. By siring horses the likes of Boomsara, winner of the Magic Millions Guineas, Outback Barbie winner of the Magic Millions QTIS, Ef Troop, Jonker and Champagne Boom he now has every trainer, agent and breeder chasing his progeny.

This colt was bred by leading Queensland nursery Eureka Stud who bred and now stand Spirit of Boom. He’s from a half-sister to Express Air, winner of the Queensland Guineas from a strong Eureka Stud family that has produced quality runners such as Diamondsondinside, Bergerac and Heavens Deal.

This athletic colt will be prepared by leading Brisbane trainer Rob Heathcote who has so far won the Metropolitan Premiership six times. Rob trained quality gallopers such Excellantes, Fillydelphia, Gundy Son, Hopfgarten and this year’s star 2yo Rothfire. He’s scored Gr.1s with Solzhenitsyn and Woorim but is best known for preparing Champion Sprinter and 7 time Gr.1 winner Buffering. He’s certainly in great hands.
