Who can resist a Rothesay? He has emerged as one of the most popular first season sires in 2014, with his yearlings commanding a median price of $60,000 from big name buyers such as Peter Moody, Mick Price, Darren Weir and John Foote Bloodstock. We inspected a number of Rothesays at the Magic Millions Premier sale (Jan 2014) and the Gold Coast yearling sale (March 2014) and their stamp of quality is undeniable. Rothesay is by Fastnet Rock, who is the hottest sire currently standing in Australia (for a service fee of $275,000) so his lineage is first class. Rothesay won the Queensland Guineas (Gr.2), ran second in the Theo Marks (Gr.2) to More Joyous, and now stands at Glenlogan Stud. He has sired 117 live foals this season, with industry insiders saying that he’s a “good shot at the first season sire title” (Breeding and Racing magazine).

He’s paired with young broodmare Supriym Story to produce this filly. Supriym Story was a $135,000 yearling by champion Australian sprinter General Nediym and trained by Lee Freedman. As a two and three year old, she raced competitively in Victorian metropolitan and provincial company and competed against stakes performed horses like Weekend Hussler, Extension of Time, Down Under Boy and Simplest. Supriym Story’s dam is Grand Story, who is a half-sister to Group 1 winner Mr Bureaucrat and has produced 50 per cent stakes horses to runners at stud. Grand Story is sired by Grand Lodge, who won the Dewhurst Stakes (Gr.1) and was named Champion Two-Year-Old colt in Europe. Supriym Story's lineage also includes Group 1 winners Paint, Akhenaton, Mythical Play and Hay List.

You can see from the photos that our latest Adrenaline filly is a genuine athlete. Her physique has all the hallmarks of a sprinter – well-developed shoulder and forearm, muscular hindquarters, and strength across her back. She has great depth of girth and a big-barrelled torso to support the requisite heart and lung capacity to make a racehorse. She is structurally correct to support the rigours of racing, and she is a very fluid walker. She also has a beautiful relaxed attitude and presented as consistently calm throughout the six days of inspections and trading at the Gold Coast yearling sale.
